As relevant today as upon its release in 2001, Gabriele Muccino’s romantic drama, the audience award-winner at Sundance Film Festival, shows a perspective of love in its darkest shades. A younger Stefano Accorsi and Giovanna Mezzogiorno lead as Emilio and Anna, a couple whose marriage has been in crisis for a long time. Through their eyes, and those of six others with who they become intertwined, the age-old difficulties of relationships are revealed in a starkly raw light. We become entangled in a web of passions driven by the characters’ panic of growing old and fear of losing that which makes them feel alive.
